Abstract

This is a progress report on the status of the proposed ISO Draft Recommendations for Seat Belt Assemblies for Motor Vehicles, following the fourth meeting of Subcommittee 2 of Technical Committee 94 (ISO/TC94/SC2). Anchorages are being worked on by a separate group called Working Group 11 (ISO/TC22/WG11). Countries participating in Subcommittee 2 are Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

At the meeting at The Hague a draft recommendation was completed and after recirculation to the participating members, and if no changes are requested, will be forwarded to Technical Committee 94 for their comment and approval. The Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) is awaiting this document. In these recommendations a seat belt assembly is defined to include all types of belts and harnesses, including a lap belt, a single diagonal belt, a three-point belt and a full harness. This is in contrast to the current Standard, SAE J4a, wherein the term "seat belt assembly" applies only to the lap belt.
