Abstract

Dr. F. H. Wentworth, Ohio Department of Health, has reported the following facts about a case of rabies. The patient, a 4-year-old child, was bitten on the forehead by a stray dog on December 24, 1957. Neither vaccine nor hyperimmune serum was administered. Onset of symptoms was on January 30, 1958, and the child died on February 2. Negri bodies were found in the brain, and mouse inoculation tests were positive for rabies. The dog was not apprehended. The area in which the child lived is one of those where animal rabies has been encountered frequently in the past year.
