Abstract

This paper analyzes the Optional Protocol to the U.N. Convention on the Elimination of the All Forms of Discimination against Women(hereinafter"the Optional Protocol")from the perspective of"Violence against Women."First, the paper reviews the reasons why it was decided to introduce the Optional Protocol, namely to emphasize the domestic application of the U.N. Convention on Women. Second, it examines the drafting process of the Optional Protocol at the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women from 1996 through 1999. Finally, the paper analyzes the first case of the inquiry process, which took place in Mexico, in order to argues the effectiveness of the Optional Protocol.
