Abstract

... We saw remnants of the plant that the patient consumed and were convinced that it was horsetail. Although we do not know the exact amount of horsetail the patient ingested, her husband described it as a full glass of “pure” horsetail juice (that is, the whole plant was juiced, and no additives were used). We suspect that that the patient ingested a much higher dose than the 900 mg used in Carneiro and colleagues' trial.

Patients with pure water intoxication have low urinary osmolality, whereas this patient's urinary osmolality was high. This finding indicates that she had SIADH,...
