Abstract

More than 2800 subjects participated in an epidemiological questionnaire study concerning alcohol, drugs and driving. All subjects were purchasing oral medications in pharmacies. About a half of the pharmacist's customers had a driver's license. About 20% of the subjects purchasing drugs which have potential to impair driving skills had received information concerning drugs and driving from their physicians. Subjects from urban areas using alcohol and drugs had an 1.5-2.5 times increased involvement in traffic accidents as compared with nonusers.
