Abstract

Curved streets and raised, landscaped medians are two preferred measures that can be taken during development to prevent the need for traffic calming in the future. This article looks at the issues that most often arise when traffic calming is proposed for an area. These are: NIMBY (not in my backyard); speed hump use; and neighborhood through streets converting to U-turns midway.
