Abstract

Three studies are reviewed in which a behavioristic approach was used to modify workers' ear plug wearing behavior. To behavior modification techniques were used: individual feedback to workers regarding their temporary hearing loss and two versions of a token economy system. These modification techniques were applied according to an alternative and nontraditional approach that involved concurrent changes in managers' behavior. All three studies resulted in a market increase in your plug usage, reach an average level of 85% to 90%. These data are rather impressive because previous attempts in these factories to change workers' behavior have largely failed. The behavioristic approach is therefore considered to be rather promising for promoting the use of personal protective equipment.
