Abstract

How many presses are there in Finland? What is the age distribution of the presses and how high is the capacity factor? How much has the Finnish industry invested in press safety and what has been achieved? Are the safety improvements profitable to an enterprise? What is the safety level of presses? These questions were presented after the new safety regulations of power-presses had been in force four years. The questions were surveyed in a study where over one hundred Finnish enterprises were involved.Soon after the study on press regulations was completed a new study was started on the effect of conveyor safety regulations. In this case, the committee preparing new conveyor regulations was interested to know the need for technical changes and the cost of the changes at operating conveyors. They also asked an assessment of the effects on accidents at conveyors. In this case, the study was a part of the decision making process of new safety regulations.
