Abstract

The design of human operator controls rests on a literature and experience covering the past 40 years. Some deficiencies and inconsistencies in our current controls standard are noted with respect to control design procedures and the particular case of alphanumeric data entry. Future activities are recommended in six areas for better operator control design standards.
