Abstract

The African American adolescents' inability to resolve interpersonal conflicts nonviolently continues to be a major concern issue. This article will examine variables that contributes to interpersonal conflicts in the African American adolescent population. Some of these variables include exposure to violence, poverty, and gender. The article will explore the adolescents' methods of resolving conflicts with family members and with their peer group. The article will explore a training program designed to enhance adolescents' conflict resolution methods. In addition, the article will discuss the social cognitive theory in relationship to self-efficacy and aggressive behavior. Finally, there will be a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the research studies in this article.
