Abstract

Safety 2010 World Injury Conference, London, Abstract: : Major road traffic accident victim category on Sri Lankan roads is pedestrians. There are many reasons for high pedestrian casualties. Pedestrian behaviour, pedestrian facilities, law enforcement and driver behaviour are some of those. The attached photograph is a good example on all effect of all the above factors on pedestrians safety. Here the pedestrian is trying to get in to the bus on a pedestrian crossing while that particular bus is trying to overtake another bus parked at pedestrian crossing to pick passengers.
