Abstract

Over the past three decades, impaired driving arrests have been primary points of entry for many into substance treatment and a consciousness-raiser indicating a greater problem. However, several state lawmakers have moved from focusing solely on drunk and drugged driving, and have broadened the focus of impaired driving to include all high-risk driving behaviors. As many states pass laws concerning the use of mobile communication devices, an increased awareness of distracted driving has been created.
