Abstract

In numerous cases authors arrive at different conclusions in doing similar experiments. The difference can only be explained by the assumption of strain differences in the animals. The article is designed to show how present-day knowledge of heredity may be useful in the study of behavior. (1) Present trends in the science of genetics, (2) genetic variability and behavior variability, and (3) the control of genetic variability are discussed. The author shows how heredity can be made a useful research tool. It is suggested that psychologists should investigate the genetic background of their animals and state it.
