Abstract

The environment is an important agent in safety culture development. No empirical research has been conducted among the Malaysian and it is hoped that this study will contribute to the progress. This paper aims to evaluate the influence of environment - behaviour factor's towards safety culture development. Questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews held among Grade G7 contractors ensure the richness of the data collected. The findings revealed a fairly weak internal environment of the organisations, which does not reinforce safe behaviours. Further, interviews among Senior Management, acknowledged their state of safety culture were contributed by the system established.
