Abstract

This document contains major provisions of India's 1988 Commission of Sati (Prevention) Rules. These rules allow the delegation of some of the responsibilities associated with the prevention of Sati which are assigned to the Collector and District Magistrate to be delegated to other officers. Prohibitory orders are to be made in a customary manner in the concerned locality and the order shall be prominently displayed. Owners of temples and structures used to glorify Sati are to be given 90 days' notice before the structures are removed. Upon removal, an inventory shall be made of the property and shall indicate where the property is stored.
