Abstract

Traffic signal violation is an important factor in causing accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians. Thus, studying factors influencing traffic signal violations in China seem extremely urgent and important. Using data collected from Guangdong Province in China, this study applies the Logistic model to analyze risk factors influencing traffic signal violations for three different groups, car drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

RESULTS indicate that road types and lighting conditions have different effects on traffic signal violations for the three groups. In addition, different ages have different effects on traffic signal violations for car drivers and pedestrians. Finally, occupations have different effects on cyclists and pedestrians. Therefore, China might establish policies and promulgate regulations based on the different risk factors for the three groups.
