Abstract

The reliability and validity of the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Young Children--Spanish Version (TSCYC-SP) were assessed with a sample of 121 children from Spanish-speaking families referred to a community mental health center in a Southwest city of the United States (U.S.). The Child Behavior Checklist-Spanish and the TSCYC-SP were completed by parents who referred their children for outpatient services. Females scored higher than males on the TSCYC-SP scales of Depression and Post-traumatic Stress Arousal. Families living in the U.S. between zero and 11 years obtained higher scores on the TSCYC-SP scales of Anxiety, Depression, and Post-traumatic Stress. Cronbach alphas ranged from 0.67 to 0.93. Convergent validity for the TSCYC-SP scales was supported. The study indicates that the TSCYC-SP is a reliable and valid measure. Additional studies with larger samples are recommended.
