Abstract

Any attempt to understand how we perceive the elements of risk in complex interactions on the roads presents a considerable challenge to anyone who tries to understand the underlying factors of decision-making. This paper describes a study which took place in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne and the Borough of Gateshead. Its focus was a route of about 23 miles in length, ranging across both sides of the River Tyne and taking approximately 90 minutes to drive its complete length.
