abstract="In our study we assessed the frequency of hopelessness and suicide attempts in a sample representing the Hungarian population within a survey called Hungarostudy 2002. We created the short version of the widely used Beck Hopelessness Scale for screening purposes in suicide prevention. The short version of BHS consists of four items, and has excellent psychometric properties; therefore it can be very useful for screening of suicidal risks in general practice and in psychiatric specialist care. Moreover, an investigation was conducted into psychological, somatic, sociological, socioeconomical as well as cultural variables that show positive or negative correlation with hopelessness and important predictors of suicide.<p /> <p>Language: hu</p>",
