abstract="Participation in road traffic/driving a motorized vehicle involves numerous skills capable of being influenced by medications. Common examples of the latter are psychoactive drugs, hypnotics and sedatives, antihistaminics, analgesics and psychostimulants. Both the therapeutic effect itself and potential side effects can pose a danger, for example, via the loss of psychomotoric coordination, or equilibrium or sensory disturbances. Every fourth accident can be traced back to the influence of some medication or other. In addition, the patient himself may be harboring a variety of major risks including age, physiological and mental status and previous illnesses.",
