abstract="The key word prevention should be extended to situations before people become victims of burns due to fire. Educating the public is an important aspect of such prevention and protection. The National Fire Protection Association's project "Learn Not to Bum," and its newly expanded fire safety curriculum for children, are designed to reduce the number of burn casualties. Current technology, including early warning devices such as smoke and heat detectors, plus automatic fire extinguishing systems, can be used to further reduce the tragic toll taken by fire. It is possible to reduce the annual number of burn victims in the United States by 50% during the next decade, and plastic surgeons can be part of this effort.

Language: en
",
