abstract="This paper presents an overview of road accidents in Australia, updating earlier studies while also covering the ten-year period from 1998 to 2007. It notes that while road deaths peaked at almost 4,000 deaths in 1970, and fell to below 2,000 by 1993, since 2003 fatality levels have remained stagnant at a little over 1,500 deaths annually. The author sees this leveling trend as a call to once again promote safety improvements from earlier years.<p />",
