abstract="This paper relates to the study of the road surface condition detection technique based on the image taken by a TV camera attached to the rearview mirror of a vehicle. We first examine a technique to detect the water on the road surface. The extraction of the water on the road is made with the technique which obtains the property of the polarization from the image. We conducted field tests to verify the detection ability of the road surface water while running on the expressway at 100km/h on the average and obtained obtained a favorable result.<p />",
