abstract="This study explores a novel application of roof-mounted aerodynamic airfoil actuators for reducing road excited pitch and heave of conventionally suspended cabins of heavy vehicles. The effective utilisation of lift in mitigating cabin motion is assessed on the basis of CFD analyses of cabin aerodynamics and the dynamic response of cabin of a truck-semitrailer to road excitation reckoned using a 13 DOF vehicle model. The results show the significant improvement in ride performance attained with a single actuator through proper design of mounting position, airfoil dimensions and control saturation. More substantial improvement is achievable by providing two controlled airfoils.<p />",
