abstract="Drawing primarily on data collected in Great Britain, this paper emphasises why a focal point for effective crime prevention is the hot dot, the victim who repeatedly suffers crime. Two basic reasons help explain the occurrence of repeat victimisation: risk assessment by offenders, and the fact that victimisation makes a repeat more likely. A number of crime prevention efforts that have been based on the prevention of repeat victimisation are highlighted.<p />",
