abstract="<p>Recent studies have highlighted the causes of the problems in transportation engineering education, many of which are due to a lack of suitable training, and a misunderstanding of the social content of the work.  Other major problems include the lack of proper management, defects in the planning mechanisms, with no integrated approach to the national transport plan. Future methods of education and training should encourage the required sense of responsibility and accountability at the community level. Agreement must be reached on the type of transportation systems needed and the manpower required. Technologies and training techniques should recognise the needs of the transport sector in developing countries.  Relevant communication, humanities and social science studies should be included as part of the education programmes.</p>",
