abstract="While there are no records available on the number of collisions that involve utility anchor guys within road and street rights-of-way, they do occur and result in injuries and deaths. Modification of the anchor guy with a breakaway attachment is one of several counter measures available to help reduce the results of vehicles hitting guy wires to ground anchors that support utility poles. Under a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored research project for breakaway poles, a breakaway anchor guy design was developed and crash tested in 1986. In 1992, a new breakaway anchor guy attachment was designed and tested. The breakaway anchor guy attachment is intended for use where the anchor guy will be exposed to and be unprotected from vehicular traffic, particularly where the anchor guy extends toward traffic.<p />",
