abstract="This article describes the Guaranteed Pavement Information System, an easily accessible Internet-based application dynamically linked to the city's Geographic Information System (GIS). It tells managers who is doing what, where and when with ample lead-time to plan properly. The main purpose of GPIS is to protect newly paved streets from unnecessary excavation. GPIS allows utility and city managers to easily enter and update a database containing proposed construction information across the project life cycle, including planning, design, contracts/permits, construction and the pavement guarantee period. Then, by clicking on an icon that activates a &quot;conflicts&quot; program, users are immediately able to view the impact of their proposal upon any other proposal months ahead of construction.<p />",
