abstract="This piece details a &quot;summit conference&quot; hosted by the American Public Works Association (APWA) involving 46 representatives of major metropolitan governments and telecommunications providers. Many topics were discussed and some, relating to infrastructure of telecommunications, are relevant to the transportation industry. These include telephone manholes and switching vaults which will be replaced by controlled environment vaults, and the intent to minimize disruption to businesses and citizens as modern telecommunications facilities are placed and installed in public rights-of-way.<p />",
