abstract="This synthesis will be useful to federal and state agencies, commercial truck and bus operators, and others interested in improving commercial vehicle safety. The synthesis provides information on practices that offer the greatest influence on developing and enhancing a culture of safety among commercial motor vehicle drivers. The synthesis is based on a comprehensive review of (a) literature and research pertaining to safety culture as it relates to motor carrier industries, (b) surveys and interviews of motor carrier safety managers and commercial motor vehicle drivers, and (c) case study data collected from motor carriers.<p />",
