abstract="Traffic accidents involving pedestrians or cyclists cause thousands of fatalities and serious injuries each year. This article presents an innovative approach for a collision avoidance system that aims to reduce these accidents. The different architectural approaches utilizing ad hoc and/or cellular technologies and various processing setups are discussed, and a physical analysis of the system time available between detection, warning, and reaction is presented in order to provide an overview of the time constraint.<p />",
