abstract="Visible Light Communications (VLC) is a little-known branch of optical communication that gives LED a second job as a wireless data source alongside its duties of illumination or signaling, allowing advanced information to piggyback on standard lighting assemblies at a minimal additional cost. This article describes how VLC, using LED technology, may give rise to multiple new applications of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communications; traffic and vehicular data would thus be transmitted in new ways to enhance safety applications such as collision avoidance and driver warning systems.<p />",
