abstract="The present study examined whether different levels of self-esteem and entertainment activities were related to drug use & alcohol drinking by university students. The instruments used were one assessing demographic variables, drug use, entertainment, reasons for and abstinence from drug use, and the Culture-Free Self- Esteem Inventory (Battle, 1992) exploring general, social, and personal dimensions. The results based on 247 students revealed no significant relationship between self-esteem and substance use. Self esteem was related to physical exercise and reasons for abstinence from drugs. Drug use and alcohol drinking were related to peer's drug use and alcohol drinking.<p />",
