abstract="The intrathoracic pressures produced by exposure to air or underwater blast waves of short duration are predicted using a simplified one-dimensional model. The theoretical model is then used to explore the protective effects of various added layers worn as jackets. Predictions are compared with results from a laboratory simulation model based on a water-filled shock tube.<p />",
