abstract="This paper describes the results of a study aimed at examining the field performance of modern laminated windscreens in car accidents. It considers the nature of the head impacts with glass and the injuries sustained as a result. It also considers a number of other effects that have an influence on the impact performance of windscreens, such as pre-fracture, gasket separation and the position of initial contact. Consideration has been given to the insensitivity of the AIS for scaling minor and moderate soft tissue injuries. A Tissue Damage Scale has been developed to describe and scale the injuries to a finer degree than the AIS.<p />",
