abstract="Injuries to the spinal cord can be devastating, often with tragic consequences to the survivor. Since present treatment offers little hope of restoring neurologic function, prevention of such injuries and limitations of sequelae is presently the best approach to combating this injury. A significant proportion of spinal-cord injuries related to motor vehicles involve motorcycles. Epidemiologic features of motorcycle crashes that produce spinal-cord injury, and the severity, types, and pattern of spinal-cord and other injuries sustained, are described.<p />",
