abstract="Work is described which has been carried out to formulate, calibrate, test and analyze a residential trip generation model. The study concentrates on the analysis of variables which are hypothesized to have a causal effect on trip making behavior, and aims at developing an operational methodology that provides accurate estimation and prediction of trip generation. The statistical techniques used to formulate the structure of the model and to provide a rational background to choice of variables are described. The application of the technique to calibrating the model is shown, and the actual calibration of work and OHB trips is outlined. The study found that the coefficient of determination provides measure for performance of a model and measure for comparing models. It was also found that the measure of usefulness of the households model for forecasting trip generation must be based on its ability to predict travel for some higher level of aggregation. The classification of households by car ownership, size and number of employed residents was found to be significant.<p />",
