abstract="Six-year driving records were compared for 1501 matched pairs of drivers who were convicted of multiple driving-under-the-influence offenses (DUI).  One member of each pair received the mandatory license suspension/revocation while the second avoided such licensing control by having his prior DUI convictions declared unconstitutional.  The traffic safety effectiveness of mandatory license suspension/revocation for drivers convicted of multiple DUI offenses was documented.  The treatment effect associated with such licensing controls was found to exist for 42 months for subsequent DUI occurrence and 48 months for subsequent crash involvement.  This is longer than the actual term of the suspension or revocation.  The use of such controls as a precrash countermeasure was most effective for drivers over the age of 30.<p />",
