abstract="An adaptation of the International Classification of Diseases is described. By employing a modular construction for the code in place of the present integral one, the system is made more simple and economical, yet more comprehensive and versatile. At the same time, savings are made in coding, decoding, programming for retrieval, and staff training, while accuracy is improved. The new system has proved to have significant advantages in the collection of injury data by the accident compensation Authority in New Zealand and should offer corresponding benefits to similar organizations. In addition, the system has pointed the way to the development of a new method of recording accident causation.<p />",
