abstract="Women are at increased risk of domestic violence during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Domestic violence results in increased rates of miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, chorioamnionitis, fetal injury, and fetal death. The UK Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has recommended that domestic violence education should be an integral part of medical training. Its report, "Violence Against Women," urges obstetricians to conduct at least one interview with pregnant women that is not attended by the partner or family members in order to facilitate the disclosure of sensitive information. If violence is detected and the woman's health and safety are at risk, rules of confidentiality no longer apply.

Language: en
",
