abstract="Vapour cloud explosions (VCEs) remain a significant industrial hazard and the ability to quantify the probabilities and range of consequences of such explosions is required for safety assessments, plant design and accident investigation.Since the authors wrote their original paper on blast effects from VCEs, a little over a decade ago, a considerable effort has been expended on furthering our understanding of these explosions. The progress that has been made is reviewed, with particular emphasis on the methods that are now available for predicting blast effects. Gaps in knowledge are identified and recommendations made for further work.<p />",
