abstract="<p><br/>Intimate partner violence (IPV) can have profound effects on the physical and mental well-being of children, making it an important pediatric health problem. Mothers who are abused are much more likely to seek care for their children than for themselves, therefore, child health settings are an ideal place to screen for IPV. Pediatric emergency care providers have a unique opportunity to identify and intervene in IPV. This article discusses the challenges inherent in dealing with IPV in the pediatric emergency department, elements of a successful program and offers some roles for providers.</p><p />",
