abstract="The severity of injuries in accidents depends often on chance. Because of this random nature, injuries are a bad measure of the severity of risks for a single factory. Serious injuries are so rare that they normally cannot point to preventive action.We are able to estimate the potential seriousness of accidents. To study this method the author together with the representatives of a steel factory investigated about 300 accidents and near-accidents. The purpose was to find out the potentially most serious injury and part of the body affected.  <p>The reliability of the estimation and the facts which relate to it will be studied. Also the differences between the estimated risk potential and the risk indicated by real injuries will be studied.</p>  <p></p>",
