abstract="The issue investigated is whether or not piecework has an effect on accident rates in the logging industry of the province of British Columbia. The 1.430 time loss claims for 1972 accidents to buckers and fallers are examined. Several indirect approaches are used in searching for differences in the accident experience of piecework-fallers and salary-fallers. An &quot;almost direct&quot; procedure is developed in which the dependent variable is an individual accident rate and the independent variables are piecework/salary, age, size of firm and geographic location. The conclusion is that piecework does not affect accident rates for buckers and fallers. However, a similar analysis finds that piecework-fallers do have more severe accidents than salary-fallers.   <p></p>",
