abstract="Behaviour modification by providing positive feedback has been successful in changing many types of behaviour. A number of experiments have yielded good results in reinforcing safe behaviour, too. Yet few studies have measured the effects on accidents. This experiment for improving order and cleanliness was conducted in a production hall at a shipyard. Feedback as a total index of performance was given to foremen and to workers. The housekeeping standard improved quickly and the new standard was maintained throughout the follow-up year.Accidents were also reduced considerably, much more than could be explained by reinforced safe behaviour.<p />",
