abstract="In 1978 the first formal discussions on postgraduate courses in occupational safety and health took place. This led to the Institute offering a Graduate Diploma course in this field in 1982. The course has a multidisciplinary intake and is based in the Department of Environmental Health in the Division of Health Sciences but involves staff from many Departments at the Institute and external organizations.This paper describes the course organization, objectives and structure and also discusses the various problems which have become apparent and how they have been resolved in the development and implementation of the course.<p />",
