abstract="Domestic violence, understood as all forms of violence practiced in private sphere by persons who live together orare connected emotionally with the victim, is a current subject, which has been widely discussed and investigated inthe different areas of knowledge. This is a issue of high prevalence, considered a public health problem and aviolation of human rights. This article presents a theoretical review on this topic, focusing on mechanisms aimed atminimizing the situation of victimization, such as public policies and specialized police stations. Also presents abrief overview of coping strategies of women facing violence. It discusses the need for research that may help inunderstanding the concept and broaden the understanding of the process developed by women in domesticviolence situation.<p />",
