abstract="It is evident that visual perception plays the role of fundamental importance in the driver-vehicle-environment system.  How a driver sees and interprets a moving scene ahead of him is most relevant to the problem of road traffic safety.  Perceptual misjudgments have been found to be a major factor in many road accidents.
