abstract="As the current millennium draws to a close, there are increasing media reports of violence among cult members. This paper presents a provisional typology of apocalyptic suicide and analyses the factors associated with it. These factors include: a strong dualistic philosophy, a leader with total control over the movement, and relative isolation in the presence of apocalyptic teachings. The role of mental health professionals in dealing with these groups is discussed.<p />",
