abstract="The global Decade of Action for Road Safety will be launched on 11 May 2011. Instigated by a UN resolution with the support of the Australian government, the aim of this initiative is to address the more than 1.2 million road deaths that occur every year. This paper provides a summary of this global initiative. It discusses some of the key issues and challenges that will need to be addressed to ensure the initiative is successful, as well as highlighting some of the ways in which Australian individuals and organizations can contribute to this.<p />",
